There is no doubt that this book (kitab ul 'elm) is a great compilation of lectures by our beloved Sheikh Uthaymeen. These excerpts are merely a reminder for the believers. With this, we strongly advise the reader to refer to the original text. We also inform that only a portion of the work was translated into English.
Lastly, we encourage the reader to supplicate for our beloved Sheikh and to beseech Allah to enter him into His paradise.
Further benefits taken from the book:
6. It is because of this that we say: It is incumbent for worship to adhere to the legislation. In its form, in its location, at its time and for its purpose. It is obligatory (that worship) adheres to the legislation in all of these matters. (pg.36 Arabic version)
7. It is upon the student to be patient with (seeking) knowledge. Meaning, he must be persistent. He does not give up nor become bored. Instead, he continues to learn according to his ability. He should be patient with (seeking) knowledge and not become tired. Verily once an individual is faced with boredom, he will become weakened and abandon knowledge. But if he is persistent with knowledge, he will gain the reward for being patient from one angle and the results (obtaining knowledge) from another.
Listen to the statement of Allah:
{{This is of the news of the unseen which We reveal unto you (O Muhammad ), neither you nor your people knew them before this. So be patient. Surely, the (good) end is for the Muttaqeen}} (Hud:49)(pg.42 Arabic version)
8. Also, the mistakes of the governments, it is not permissible for us to use their mistakes as a means for speaking ill of them.(pg. 43 Av)
9. From the affairs that are displeasing, is to find some students who have not memorized the Quran. In fact some of them can not recite correctly. This is a major flaw in the methodology of seeking knowledge. (pg. 45 Av)
10. Therefore, it is obligatory upon a student of knowledge to hold firm to the Quran and the authentic sunnah. They are to him like the two wings of a bird, if one of them is fractured, it will not fly.(pg. 45 Av)
11. There is a third matter which is very important. This matter is the speech of the scholars. One should not neglect their speech. This is because the scholars are more grounded in knowledge then you. They possess princples of the legislation, innermost knowledge and regulations that you don't possess.(pg. 46 Av)
12. The statement of Allah:
{{Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life}} (an Nahl:37)
The Sheikh commented saying: A good life is in one's heart and soul.(pg.47 Av)
13. It is not sufficient that one memorizes the book of Allah and what is easy for him from the sunnah of the Messenger (sallahu alayhe wa salem) without understanding (fahim). It is incumbent upon one to understand from Allah and His Messenger what was intended. How great are the mistakes of those who use text for other then what is meant by Allah and His Messenger and as a result, deviation occurs.(pg.53 Av)
14. The statement of Allah:
{{And (remember) Dawud and Sulaiman, when they gave judgment in the case of the field in which the sheep of certain people had pastured at night and We were witness to their judgment.
And We made Sulaiman to understand (the case), and to each of them We gave Hukman (right judgment of the affairs and Prophethood) and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains and the birds to glorify Our Praises along with Dawod, And it was We Who were the doers}}(al anbiyah:78-79)
The Sheikh commented: Allah favored Sulaiman over Dawud in this affair, but this doesn't mean that there is deficiency in the knowledge of Dawud.
(Allah continued to say:)
{{And to each of them We gave Hukman (right judgment of the affairs and Prophethood) and knowledge}} (pg.53 Av)
15. Because taqwah (piety and righteousness)is the cause for strength in understanding, and through strength in understanding, one increases in knowledge. (pg. 58 Av)
