| Från: Umm_Amatillaah (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-09-29 11:23 Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem wal hamdulillaah fil owlaa wal aakhira, was salaatu was salaamu 'ala nabiyyina Muhammad, wa ba'd Ramadaan Preperation Posted by Administrator Wednesday, 28 September 2005 RAMADAN PREPARATION Ash Shaykh Al ‘Alaamah Saalih ibn Fawzaan Al Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) There are things that are impermissible for the one fasting [to do] even though they do not nullify his fast. They are called "Mufattiraat Ma'nawiyyah" (figurative nullifiers). They include: Gheebah which is to mention your brother in a manner that he dislikes and Nameemah which is to spread slander between people. It also includes insulting, abusing and cursing [people] and other than that from prohibited speech. All of these affairs are impermissible for the Muslim whether he is fasting or not. However, it is more severe [in prohibition] as it relates to the one fasting. That is because it may remove the reward of his fast, thus leaving him with no benefit [at all]. The only thing that he would gain is fatigue, thirst and hunger. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: ((Whoever does not leave off false statements (all prohibited speech) and acting according to them, Allaah is not in need of his abstaining from his food and drink.)) [1] These affairs are prohibited always and forever; however they are more severe [in prohibition] as it relates to the one fasting, because they either eliminate the reward of one's fast or decrease it and puncture it. This is because fasting - as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said - is a shield (i.e. a protection). So if the shield is punctured, it does not benefit its possessor nor does it guard him from the enemy's arrows. But if the shield is strong and solid, he can use it to protect him from the enemy's weapon. Likewise, if the Siyaam is correct (i.e. performed in accordance to the Sharee'ah) and free from Gheebah, Nameemah, false speech and insults then indeed it shields him from Allaah's punishment. But if it is a feeble fast, uncured with Gheebah, Nameemah, insults, false speech and abuse then it is a fast that will neither prevent him from sin nor from punishment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] Bukharee, #1903 . The Explanation of Zaad al-Mustaqni' (2/382-383), after the author says, "And it is obligatory to avoid lying, backbiting and insulting [others]." Translated by: Tahir Wyatt. | Rubrik: The rulings pertaining to making up the fast tis nov 25, 2008 11:35 pm
| Från: Umm_Amatillaah (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-09-29 13:35 Från: <NOBR>Umm_Amatullah</NOBR> (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-08-11 19:12 Bismillaah wal hamdulillaah was salaat was salaam 'ala nabiyyina Muhammad, wa ba'd. The rulings pertaining to making up the fast *Please appropriately reference this fatwa to: www.fatwa-online.com, thankyou!* Whoever breaks his fast or is unable to fast during Ramadhaan due to an Islaamically permissible reason, then he is required to make up for this day; such as the one whose fast is nullified due to having had sexual intercourse or other than that. In that case, he is required to make up the fast for this day, as Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says: {…the same number (should be made up) from other days}, [Soorah al-Baqarah, Aayah 184] It is recommended that he hasten to make up that which he has missed during Ramadhaan so as to relieve himself of the responsibility. Likewise, it is recommended that he makes up for that which he missed by fasting consecutively because doing so is like having fasted as such (during Ramadhaan). However, if he does not immediately make up for that which he has missed, it is then permissible for him to delay it. This is because the available time-span (to make up the missed fasts) is open (until before the arrival of the following Ramadhaan). Regarding all such obligations within which the time-span to perform that which is obligatory on a person is open, then it is permissible to delay it's performance so long as there exists a firm intention to carry it out. It is also permissible to make up the days intermittently. However, if there is not enough time remaining during the month of Sha'baan preceding the following Ramadhaan, it becomes obligatory to make up the days consecutively, noting that it is not permissible to delay it until the arrival of the following Ramadhaan without an Islaamically acceptable reason. It is narrated on the authority of 'Aa.ishah, that she said: ((I used to have days to make up from Ramadhaan and it used to be that I was unable to make them up until Sha'baan)). It's authenticity is agreed upon by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim. So this hadeeth indicates that the time period within which it is permissible to make up the days missed during Ramadhaan is open (until before the arrival of the following Ramadhaan). If he was to delay in making up the fasts until the arrival of the following Ramadhaan, then he is required to fast the current fast of Ramadhaan and then make up for the missed fasts of the previous year afterwards. This is in addition to feeding a poor person half a saa' of the food of the land for every day (remaining to be made up). And if the cause of his delaying making up the fasts until the arrival of the following Ramadhaan is Islaamically acceptable, then he is simply required to make up the missed days from the previous Ramadhaan. If he was to die before the arrival of the following Ramdhaan whilst still having fasts to make up from the previous Ramadhaan, then there is nothing required of him since he died within the permissible time limit within which to make up the missed fasts. Likewise, if he was to die after the arrival of the following Ramadhaan and the reason for the delay is Islaamically acceptable, such as illness and travel, then there is nothing required of him (from the estate (wealth) he leaves behind). However, if the reason for the delay was Islaamically unacceptable, then it is obligatory to pay a penalty from the estate (wealth) he has left behind, sufficient to feed a poor person for every fast remaining to be made up. Additionally, if he died whilst having any fasts remaining to be made up, such as the fast of ransom or an obligatory fast arising out of any short-coming from the performance of the Hajj, then he is required to feed a poor person for every fast remaining to be made up. This is done from the estate (wealth) he has left behind, noting that no-one is required to make up the fasts on his behalf. The reason for this is that this type of fast does not permit someone else to fast on his behalf whilst he is alive, and likewise is the case upon his death. And this is the opinion of the people of knowledge. And whoever dies whilst he has any fasts to make up due to an oath or vow he has taken, then it is recommended for the one in charge of his affairs after his death to fast on his behalf as is confirmed in both al-Bukhaaree and Muslim. A woman came to the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and said: "My mother has died whilst having fasts to make up due to a vow she made. Should I fast on her behalf?" He said: ((Yes)). With reference to the one in charge of his affairs after his death, then this implies the inheritor. Shaykh Ibn Fowzaan al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhee - Volume 1, Pages 271-272 .......... Please note: Anyone who is required to feed the poor as a result of delaying the making up of the fast(s) of the previous Ramadhaan or is unable to fast due to prolonged illness or has an atonement to pay off, then we recommend they do so via the Taiba Restaturant. www.fatwa-online.comWas salaamu 'alaikunna wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatoh Umm Amatullaah | |

| Rubrik: Health tips for Ramadan tis nov 25, 2008 11:36 pm | |
| : Umm_Amatillaah (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-09-30 11:04 Bismillaah wal hamdulillaah was salaatu was salaamu 'ala nabiyyina Muhammad, wa 'alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man ta'abahum bi ihsaan, wa ba'd! Health Tips For Ramadan from: www.salafitalk.netNov. 3 -- This article provides useful tips on how to avoid some common problems encountered in Ramadan. If followed, it would enable one to fast comfortably and enjoy fully the spiritual benefits of Ramadan. During the holy month of Ramadan, our diet should not differ very much from our normal diet and should be as simple as possible. The diet should be such that we maintain our normal weight, neither losing nor gaining. However, if one is over-weight, Ramadan is an ideal time to normalise one's weight. Consume Slow Digesting Foods In view of the long hours of fasting, we should consume slow digesting foods including fibre containing-foods rather than fast-digesting foods. Slow digesting foods last up to 8 hours, while fast-digesting foods last for only 3 to 4 hours. Slow-digesting foods are foods that contain grains and seeds like barley, wheat, oats, millet, semolina, beans, lentils, wholemeal flour, unpolished rice, etc. (called complex carbohydrates). Fast-burning foods are foods that contain sugar, white flour, etc. (called refined carbohydrates). Fibre-containing foods are bran-containing foods, whole wheat, grains and seeds, vegetables like green beans, peas, sem (papry), marrow, mealies, spinach, and other herbs like methie, the leaves of beetroot (iron-rich), fruit with skin, dried fruit especially dried apricots, figs and prunes, almonds, etc.. The foods eaten should be well balanced, containing foods from each food group, i.e. fruits, vegetables, meat/chicken/fish, bread/cereals and dairy products. Fried foods are unhealthy and should be limited. They cause indigestion, heartburn, and weight problems. ! AVOID ! *Fried and fatty foods. *Foods containing too much sugar. *Over-eating especially at suhoor *Too much tea at suhoor. Tea makes you pass more urine taking with it valuable mineral salts that your body would need during the day. *Smoking cigarettes. Smoking is unhealthy and one should stop completely. ! EAT ! Eat complex carbohydrates at suhoor so that the food lasts longer making you less hungry. Haleem is an excellent source of protein and is a slow-burning food. Dates are excellent source of sugar, fibre, carbohydrates, potassium and magnesium. Almonds are rich in protein and fibre with less fat. Bananas are a good source of potassium, magnesium and carbohydrates. DRINK As much water or fruit juices as possible between iftar and bedtime so that your body may adjust fluid levels in time. CONSTIPATION Constipation can cause piles (haemorroids), fissures and indigestion with a bloated feeling. Causes: Too much refined foods, too little water and not enough fibre in the diet. Remedy: Avoid excessive refined foods, increase water intake, and use bran in baking, brown flour when making roti. LETHARGY ('low blood pressure') Excessive sweating, weakness, tiredness, lack of energy, dizziness, especially on getting up from sitting position, pale appearance and feeling faint are symptoms associated with "low blood pressure". This tends to occur towards the afternoon. Causes: Too little fluid intake, decreased salt intake. Remedy: Keep cool, increase fluid and salt intake. Caution: Low blood pressure should be confirmed by taking a blood pressure reading when symptoms are present. Persons with high blood pressure may need their medication adjusted during Ramadan. They should consult their doctor. HEADACHE Causes: Caffeine and tobacco-withdrawal, doing too much in one day, lack of sleep, hunger usually occurs as the day goes by and worsens at the end of the day. When associated with "low blood pressure", the headache can be quite severe and can also cause nausea before Iftar. Remedy: Cut down caffeine and tobacco slowly starting a week or two before Ramadan. Herbal and caffeine-free teas may be substituted. Reorganise your schedule during the Ramadan so as to have adequate sleep. LOW BLOOD SUGAR Weakness, dizziness, tiredness, poor concentration, perspiring easily, feeling shaky (tremor), unable to perform physical activities, headache, palpitations are symptoms of low blood sugar. Causes in non-diabetics: Having too much sugar (i.e. refined carbohydrates especially at suhur (sehri)). The body produces too much insulin causing the blood glucose to drop. Remedy: Eat something at suhoor and limit sugar-containing foods and drinks. Caution: Diabetics may need to adjust their medication in Ramadan, consult your doctor. MUSCLE CRAMPS Causes: Inadequate intake of calcium, magnesium and potassium foods. Remedy: Eat foods rich in the above minerals (e.g. vegetables, fruit, dairy products, meat and dates). Caution: Those on high blood pressure medication and with kidney stone problems should consult their doctor. PEPTIC ULCERS, HEART BURN, GASTRITIS AND HIATUS HERNIA Increased acid levels in the empty stomach in Ramadan aggravate the above conditions. It presents itself as a burning feeling in the stomach area under the ribs and can extend up to the throat. Spicy foods, coffee, and Cola drinks worsen these conditions. Medications are available to control acid levels in the stomach. People with proven peptic ulcers and hiatus hernia should consult their doctor well before Ramadan. KIDNEY STONES Kidney stones may occur in people who have less liquid to drink. Therefore, it is essential to drink extra liquids so as to prevent stone formation. JOINT PAINS Causes: During Ramadan, when extra salah are performed the pressure on the knee joints increases. In the elderly and those with arthritis this may result in pain, stiffness, swelling and discomfort. Remedy: Lose weight so that the knees do not have to carry any extra load. Exercise the lower limbs before Ramadan so that they can be prepared for the additional strain. Being physically fit allows greater fulfillment, thus enabling one to be able to perform salah with ease. You should always consult with your own personal doctor or healthcare provider for appropriate advice concerning your specific health needs and care during Ramadan. | |

| Rubrik: vad bör vi göra under ramadan? tis nov 25, 2008 11:37 pm | |
| Från: Umm_Amatillaah (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-10-03 10:21 Bismillaah wal hamdulillaah was salaatu was salaamu 'alaa nabiyyina Muhammad, wa ba'd! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"PIVOTAL QUOTE" There has come to you Ramadaaan, a blessed month, in which Allaah has made it obligatory to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained. Options:
Allaah -The Most High - said: "The month of Ramadaan in which the Qur’aan was revealed, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance of the Criterion between right and wrong. So whosoever of you sights the crescent for the month of Ramadhaan, he must fast that month." [Soorah al-Baqarah 2:185].
Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Islaam is built upon five: Testifying that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and the Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, establishing the Prayer, giving the Zakaah performing Hajj to the House, and fasting in Ramadhaan." [1]
He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also said:
"There has come to you Ramadaan, a blessed month, in which Allaah has made it obligatory to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained. In it is a night (Laylatul-Qadr) which is better than a thousand months. He who is deprived of its good has truly been deprived."[2]
From the many important lessons to be learnt from fasting are:
[1]: GAINING TAQWAA
Fasting has been legislated in order that we may gain taqwaa as Allaah - the Most High - said: "O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed upon those before you in order that you may attain taqwaa." [Soorah al-Baqarah 2:183].
Talq ibn Habeeb (d.100H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"When fitnah (trial and tribulation) appears then extinguish it with taqwaa." So he was asked as to what taqwaa was, so he replied: "Taqwaa is to act in obedience to Allaah, upon a light (i.e. eemaan, faith) from Allaah, hoping in the Mercy of Allaah. And taqwaa is leaving acts of disobedience to Allaah, upon a light from Allaah, due to the fear of Allaah."[3]
"This is one of the best definitions of taqwaa. For every action must have both a starting point and a goal. And an action will not be considered as an act of obedience, or nearness to Allaah unless it stems from pure eemaan (faith in Allaah). Thus, it is pure eemaan - and not habits, desires, nor seeking praise or fame - that should be what initiates an action. And the preparation showed, to earn the reward of Allaah and to seek His good pleasure."[4] So Fasting is a means of attaining taqwaa, since it helps prevent a person from many sins that one is prone to. Due to this, the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "Fasting is a shield with which the servant protects himself from the Fire."[5] So we should ask ourselves, after each day of fasting: Has this lasting made us more fearful and obedient to Allaah? Has it aided us in distancing ourselves from sins and disobedience?
[2]: SEEKING NEARNESS TO ALLAAH
The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Allaah said: Whosoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I shall be at war with him. My servant does not draw near to me with anything more beloved to me than the obligatory duties that I have placed upon him. My servant continues to draw nearer to Me with optional deeds so that I shall love him."[6]
The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Whosoever reaches the month of Ramadaaan and does not have his sins forgiven, and so enters the Fire, then may Allaah distance him."[7]
So drawing closer to Allaah - the Most Perfect - in this blessed month, can be achieved by fulfilling one's obligatory duties; and also reciting the Qur’aan and reflecting upon its meanings, increasing in kindness and in giving charity, in making du‘aa (supplication) to Allaah, attending the Taraaweeh Prayer, seeking out Laylatul-Qadr (the Night of Power and Pre-Decree), a night which is better than a thousand months, attending gatherings of knowledge, and striving in those actions that will cause the heart to draw closer to its Lord and to gain His forgiveness. Our level of striving in this blessed month should be greater than our striving to worship Allaah in any other month, due to the excellence and rewards that Allaah has placed in it. Likewise from the great means of seeking nearness to Allaah in this month is making I‘tikaaf (seclusion in the mosque in order to worship Allaah) - for whoever is able.
Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (d.751H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"Allaah also prescribed i’tikaaf for them, the objective being that the heart becomes fully preoccupied with Allaah - the Most High - concentrated upon Him alone, and cut-off from being preoccupied with the creation. Rather, the heart is only engrossed with Allaah - the Most Perfect - such that loving Him, remembering Him, and turning to Him takes the place of all the heart's anxieties and worries, so that he is able to overcome them. Thus all his concerns are for Allaah, and his thoughts are all directed towards remembering Him and thinking of how to attain His Pleasure and what will cause nearness to Him which leads him to feel content with Allaah instead of people. This, in turn prepares him for being at peace with Allaah alone, on the day of loneliness in the grave, when there will be no one else to give comfort, nor anyone to grant solace, except Him. So this is the greater goal of I‘tikaaf." [8]

| 3]: ACQUIRING PATIENCE
Imaam Ahmad (d.241H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"Allaah has mentioned sabr (patience) in over ninety places in His Book." [9]
The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
"The month of Patience, and the three days of every month, are times for fasting." [10]
Ibn ‘Abdul-Barr (d.464H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"What is meant by the month of Patience is the month of Ramadaaan ... So fasting is called patience because it restrains the soul from eating, drinking, conjugal relations and sexual desires." [11]
He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
"O youths! Whoever amongst you is able to marry then let him do so; for it restrains the eyes and protects the private parts. But whoever is unable, then let him fast, because it will be a shield for him." [12]
So fasting is a means of learning self-restraint and patience. With patience we are able to strengthen our resolve to worship Allaah alone, with sincerity, and also cope with life's ups and downs. So - for example - with patience we are able to perform our Prayers calmly and correctly, without being hasty, and without merely pecking the ground several times! With patience we are able to restrain our souls from greed and stinginess and thus give part of our surplus wealth in Zakaah (obligatory charity). With patience we are able to subdue the soul's ill temperament, and thus endure the ordeal and hardships of Hajj, without losing tempers and behaving badly. Likewise, with patience we are able to stand firm and fight Jihaad against the disbelievers, hypocrites and heretics - withstanding their constant onslaught, without wavering and buckling, without despairing or being complacent and without becoming hasty and impatient at the first signs of hardship. Allaah - the Most High - said:
"O Prophet, urge the Believers to fight ... So if there are one hundred who are patient, they shall overcome two hundred; and if there be one thousand, they shall overcome two thousand, by the permission of Allaah. And Allaah is with the patient ones." [Soorah al-Anfaal 8:65-66].
Thus, without knowledge and patience, nothing remains, except zeal and uncontrolled emotions, shouts and hollow slogans, speech that does not strengthen, but rather weakens, and actions that do not build, but rather destroy! So in this month, we should strive to develop a firm resolve for doing acts of obedience, and to adorn ourselves with patience - having certainty in the saying of our Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam): "And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and case with hardship." | 4]: CULTIVATING GOOD MANNERS The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whosoever does not abandon falsehood in speech and action, then Allaah the Mighty and Majestic has no need that he should leave his food and drink." [14] He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also said: "Fasting is not merely abstaining from eating and drinking. Rather, it is also abstaining from ignorant and indecent speech. So if anyone abuses or behaves ignorantly with you, then say: I am fasting, I am fasting." [15] These narrations point towards the importance of truthfulness and good manners. Thus, this blessed month teaches us not only to abstain from food and drink, but to also abstain from such statements and actions that may be the cause of harming people and violating their rights - since the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said whilst describing the true Believer: "A Muslim is one from whom other Muslims are safe from his tongue and his hand." [16] Thus it is upon us as individuals, to examine the shortcomings in our character, and to then seek to improve them - modeling ourselves upon the character of the last of the Prophets and Messengers, and their leader, Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) - aspiring also for the excellence which he mentioned in his saying: "I am a guarantor for a house on the outskirts of Paradise (or whosoever leaves off arguing, even if he is in the right; and a house in the centre of Paradise (or whosoever abandons falsehood, even when joking; and a house in the upper-most part of Paradise for whosoever makes his character good."[17] So by shunning oppression, shamelessness, harbouring hatred towards Muslims, back-biting, slandering, tale-carrying, and other types of falsehood, we can be saved from nullifying the rewards of our fasting - as Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "It may be that a fasting person, receives nothing from his fast, except hunger and thirst." [18] [5]: SENSING MUSLIM UNITY The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "Fast when they fast, and break your fast when they break their fast, and sacrifice the day they sacrifice." [19] Imaam at-Tirmidthee (d.275H) - rahimahullaah - said: "Some of the People of Knowledge explained this hadeeth by saying: Its meaning is to fast and break the fast along with the Jamaa’ah and the majority of people." [10] Thus, in this blessed month we can sense an increased feeling of unity and of being a single Ummah due to our fasting and breaking our fast collectively. We also feel an increased awareness about the state of affairs of the Muslims and of the hardships that they endure, because: "During the fast a Muslim feels and experiences what his needy and hungry brothers and sisters feel, who are forced to go without food and drink for many days - as occurs today to many of the Muslims in Africa." [21] Indeed, the unity of the Muslims - and their aiding and assisting one another - is one of the great fundamentals upon which the Religion of Islaam is built, as Allaah - the Most High -said: "And hold fast altogether to the rope of Allaah and do not be divided." [Soorah Aal-‘Imraan 3:103]. Allaah - the Most High - also said: "The Believers - men and women - and friends and protectors to one another." [Soorah at-Tawbah 9:44]. Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728) - rahimahullaah - said: "The welfare of people will not be complete - neither in this world, nor in the Hereafter - except with ijtimaa‘ (collectiveness), ta‘aawun (mutual cooperation), and tanaasur (mutual help); mutual cooperation in order to secure benefits, and mutual help in order to ward off harm. It is for this reason that man is said to be social and civil by nature." [22] Thus we see that Islaam lays great importance in bringing hearts together and encouraging ijtimaa‘ (collectiveness). This is not only reflected in the month of Ramadaan, but also in the other acts of worship as well. So, for example, we have been ordered by the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to pray the five daily Prayers in congregation, and that it has been made twenty-seven times more rewarding than praying it individually. [23] Likewise, this similar collective spirit is demonstrated in the act of Hajj (Pilgrimage). Even in learning knowledge and studying it, blessings have been placed in collectiveness, as Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "No people gather together in a house from the houses of Allaah, reciting the Book of Allaah and studying it amongst themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelops them, the angels surround them, and Allaah mentions them to those that are with Him." [24] Likewise, even in our everyday actions such as eating, Islaam teaches us collectiveness. Thus, when some of the Companions of the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to him: O Messenger of Allaah, we eat but do not become satisfied. He replied: "Perhaps you eat individually?" They replied, Yes! So he said: "Eat collectively and mention the name of Allaah. There will then be blessings for you in it." [25] Indeed, even in the etiquette’s of sitting the spirit of collectiveness is demonstrated. So, one day the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) came across the Companions who were sitting in separate circles, so he said to them: "Why do I see you sitting separately!" [26] Similarly, Aboo Tha‘labah al-Khushanee (radiyallaahu ‘anhu) said: Whenever the people used to encamp, they used to split-up into the mountain passes and valleys. So Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "Indeed your being split-up in these mountain passes and valleys is from Shaytaan." Thereafter, whenever they used to encamp, they used to keep very close together, to such an extent that it was said: If a cloth were to be spread over them, it would cover them all. [27] Thus, Ramadaan is a time to increase our sense of unity and brotherhood, and our commitment to Allaah and His Religion. And there is no doubt that this sense of unity necessitates that: "We all work together as required by Islaam as sincere brothers - not due to hizbiyyah (bigoted party spirit), nor sectarianism - in order to realize that which is of benefit to the Islaamic Ummah and to establish the Islaamic society that every Muslim aspires for so that the Sharee‘ah (Prescribed Law) of Allaah is applied upon His earth" [28] So we must examine ourselves during the month of Ramadhaan and ask: What is my role? - and each of us has a role - in helping this precious Ummah to regain its honour, and return to the Ummah its comprehensive unity and strength, and victory that has been promised to it? Likewise, we should reflect upon our own character and actions and ask: Are they aiding the process of unity and brotherhood, or are they a harm and a hindrance to it? So we ask Allaah to grant us the ability to change ourselves for the better, during this blessed month, and not to be of those who are prevented from His Mercy and forgiveness. Indeed He is the One who Hears and He is the One to Respond. Footnotes: [1] Saheeh: Related by al-Bukhaaree (1/48) and Muslim (no.16), from Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallaahu ‘anhu). Question: Does every day on which the fast is performed in Ramadan require an intention, or is it sufficient to make one intention for the whole month? Answer: It is sufficient in Ramadan to make one intention at the beginning of it, because even if the fasting person did not make an intention for every day the night before, that was has intention at the start of the month. But if the fasting is broken during the month due to a journey, or illness or the like, he must make the fresh intention, because he has broken it by abandoning the fast due to travel, illness or the like.

| Från: Umm_Amatillaah (Ursprungligt meddelande) Skickat: 2005-10-14 10:40 Bismillaah wal hamdulillaah was salaatu was salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah, wa ba'd! Prolonging or Shortening the Du’aa During Ramadaan Posted by Administrator Wednesday, 12 October 2005 Prolonging or Shortening the Du’aa During Ramadaan Ash Shaykh Al ‘Allaamah Muhammad ibn Saaleh Al ‘Uthaymeen Question: During Ramadaan some of the Imaams prolong the Du’aa while others make it short, what is the correct way? Answer: The correct way is to neither exceed nor be deficient [in the Du’aa]. Prolonging the Du’aa in a manner that is difficult upon the people is prohibited for indeed the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم ) became upset when news reached him that Mu’adh ibn Jabal prolonged the Salaat while leading his people, he was never that upset in a sermon before at all. He said to Mu’aadh ibn Jabal: “Are you a Fataan (one who causes Fitnah) O Mu’aadh.” One should suffice himself with the words [in the Du'aa] that have been [authenticaly] transmitted or may increase or decrease in that a little. There is no doubt that prolonging the Du’aa is difficult upon the people and tires them, especially the weak from amongst them. There are also those who have jobs and do not want to leave before the Imaam does and it is difficult for them to stay with the Imaam [until he finishes]. So my advice to my brothers from amongst the Imaams is to be moderate, it is also befitting not perform the Du’aa sometimes so that people do not think that the Qunoot is compulsory while praying the Witr. . 48 Questions on Ramadaan, Q#: 6 Translated by: Abu ‘Abdul Waahid, Nadir Ahmad. Praying the Witr Prayer in Congregation Question: Is it permissible to pray the Witr in congregation in other than the month of Ramadan, like, if some people were upon a journey, and the time for the Witr prayer arrived, should they pray in congregation even if it is once? Answer: There is no problem if a person prays the supererogatory prayers in congregation some of the time, because this is established from the Prophet sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam in the night prayer, that he prayed with Ibn Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with them, and he prayed with Abdullaah bin Masood, and he prayed with Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamaan; all of this is mentioned in the Sunnah so if they were to do this, and not take it as a established Sunnah then there is no objection to it.
